Holden Audubon Scholarship to Summer Workshop for Educators
Herb Lord

Washington Crossing Audubon Society (WCAS) is offering a full scholarship to the Audubon Workshop for Educators this summer, July 11-17. The award covers the fee for the workshop in Maine, including room and board, but does not include transportation. The scholarship will be funded from the generous bequest of Roberta (Polly) Holden.

This scholarship is available to an educator at any public or private school in our area. Held at Hog Island in mid-coast Maine's Muscongus Bay, the workshop is intended for both science and non-science educators who are either already incorporating environmental education into their lesson plans or would like to. The week includes field trips, boat trips, discussions, workshops, special presentations and lots of ideas and materials to take back home.

An educator who wishes to attend one of the Audubon workshops at more distant sites, such as Wyoming, may also apply. The award will comprise an amount equivalent to the Maine fee; any difference must be made up by the recipient. If an Audubon Workshop for Educators is offered this summer in Connecticut, that may be substituted for the Maine workshop.

If you are an educator and live or teach in central New Jersey, apply for this scholarship by writing a letter telling us about yourself and your teaching and outlining the potential benefits of the workshop to you and your students. All letters of application must be received by March 31. Please send your letter to: Scholarship, Washington Crossing Audubon Society, P.O. Box 112, Pennington, NJ 08534. For more information, call WCAS President Herb Lord at 609 443 3981 or send e-mail to president@washingtoncrossingaudubon.org.
