The New Jersey State Museum is breaking with Super Science tradition this year and has moved the event from January to May. Not only that, but most of the exhibits will be outdoors under the "big top." This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event, which is titled "Super Science Silver: Festival of Family Fun." The change in date and venue were prompted by renovations in the museum's main building plus increasingly crowded conditions due to the large public turnout and the greater number of SSW participants. Assistant Curator and event coordinator Tony Miskowski is determined to keep the event at the museum and to welcome as many exhibitors as space will allow, so it is being moved to a huge circus tent in the courtyard between the Museum and the State Library.
Washington Crossing Audubon is thrilled to be a participant again this year. We never cease to be gratified by the curiosity and enthusiasm of the young children who come to our table to try their hand at bird identification and to look over the exhibit. This year, we plan to pick up on the theme of a new paleontology exhibit at the museum, "Hatching the Past: The Great Dinosaur Egg Hunt," which opens on Super Science Weekend. According to Mr. Miskowski, the exhibit represents the largest collection of dinosaur eggs and embryos ever to be exhibited in the Garden State. Our exhibit will focus on bird development from egg to hatchling and on the evolutionary link to their dinosaur roots.
Can you spare a couple of hours to help at our Super Science exhibit? We can use people to help at the table both Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22. Hours are 9 to 6 on Saturday and 11 to 6 on Sunday. Please contact Pat Sziber at SziBird@aol.com or 609-737-1189 if you would like to volunteer for this very special project. Suggestions for enhancing our exhibit are also welcome.
