The Assunpink Creek Watershed Association meets at the Mercer County Library on Darrah Lane on the second Thursday of each month from 7-8:30 pm. All concerned individuals interested in helping to set the course of the association are invited. For further information, see their site at www.assunpinkcreekwa.org), send e-mail to contact@assunpinkcreekwa.org or send snail mail to the address below.

A large part of Mercer County falls within the drainage basin of the Assunpink Creek and its many tributaries. As it courses southwestward, it passes through farmland, parks, a wildlife management area, a swamp, and miles of suburban sprawl. When it finally reaches urban Trenton as a broad and sometimes raging stream, it releases its many burdens into the Delaware River. How many changes has it seen, how many insults has it borne?

This is, perhaps, central New Jersey's least appreciated waterway. Happily, there is a small group of people who would like to change that. They want to protect the health of the Assunpink and promote awareness of its beauty and its fragility. It's a huge undertaking. The Assunpink system flows through many municipalities with great diversity of community makeup. But it is an exciting challenge and WCAS will help in whatever way we can. At this point, the fledgling group needs a core of energetic idea people to help get the movement underway. Consider becoming a start-up member of the Assunpink Creek Watershed Association. Write to
