Mark Garland: Birds are Crazy!

“Birds are Crazy” takes a lighthearted look at the incredible diversity of birds, in terms of appearance, sound, and behavior. Delight in the “crazy” characteristics of some birds, and enjoy learning about some of the world’s more unusual species.
Mark Garland is a naturalist based in Cape May, New Jersey. His work experience includes 6 years with the National Park Service, 17 years with the Audubon Naturalist Society, and 4 years with the Cape May Bird Observatory. Since 2005 he has run his own small business, conducting nature-oriented tours, courses, field trips, and presentations. Birds are a special interest. Since 1984 he has led more than 250 nature tours to various parts of the world, including more than 30 trips to Costa Rica.
He is author of the book Watching Nature: A Mid-Atlantic Natural History, and he writes the “Birders Question Mark” column in Bird Watcher’s Digest. He is director of the Cape May Monarch Monitoring Project. He teaches week-long birding programs in Cape May for the Road Scholar program and in Maine for the Hog Island Audubon Camp. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Conservation and Environmental Education from the University of Maryland.
